My Tyre’s losing Pressure!
It’s not a blowout and it’s not completely flat, but My trye always need pumping
up…why?
Tyres lose air over time, often due to road surfaces, speed bumps etc. But if your tyres
loses air consistently and more frequently, then you might have an issue. For the sake
of yours and everyone else’s safety –get it checked out.
Why is my tyre losing pressure?
Slow Puncture
The most common reason for your tyre to lose air quicker than usual is down to a slow
puncture. It is possible that an object stuck in the tread of your tyre could be causing a
leak of air at the site of the puncture. It’s not rushing out because the object is partly
filling the hole but it’s leaking and could get worse. Check for this by simply inspecting
your tyre.
In many cases this puncture is entirely fixable without a completely new tyre having to
be bought. Much depends on the nature and placement of the puncture.
Valve Issue
The first thing to check is the main source – your valve. Dirt or corrosion can clog up the
valve.Check by putting some liquid, washing up liquid is ideal around the valve,
revealing any air bubbles. If you don’t fix this issue, you’ll be forever topping up your car
but eventually it will lead to a flat tyre.
Impact Damage
Bulges and lumps on the tyre often as a result of impact damage can begin to leak air.
Even weeks later, so keep checking if you had any impact, even as little as running over
a kerb. Larger impacts may even damage the tyre rim, affecting the seal and resulting in
pressure loss.
Topping up your air all the time frustrating and time consuming, always in the back of
your mind. Returning to your car can be stressful, not knowing if the tyres will be able to
get you home to work. You are putting off the problem. Delaying an obvious the issue.
Wait too long and you risk causing more damage not to mention the safety issues.
It’s worth checking regularly and often.
